Female Soccer Team Coach (Casual till December 2009) The Female Soccer Program will operate weekly on a Weekday evening from 4.30pm to 6:00. The program is co-ordinated and co-facilitated by the Refugee Youth Worker. Young refugee females will be supported by the Soccer coach to expand their soccer skills and increase their fitness, while having fun. The Soccer Coach will facilitate soccer drills and fun activities to assist young females in the community to improve their soccer skills, increase their fitness, increase their confidence and enjoy themselves.
Key objectives of the position 1) Delivering soccer training drills to a group of young female participants. 2) Improving participants understanding of the soccer rules and good conduct 3) Teaching and correcting basic soccer techniques 4) To actively participate in the soccer program and show by example. 5) Assist female participants to improve their soccer skills, increase their fitness, increase their confidence and enjoy themselves 6) Facilitate and encourage links between young refugee females and recreational facilities and local sporting clubs Key duties and responsibilities 1. To coach young females in indoor soccer on a weekly basis for 2 hours after school 2. To clearly instruct girls on good soccer practice and the rules of soccer so they can improve their knowledge and skill of the game as well as their fitness. 3. To actively participate and demonstrate good practice in the soccer training sessions
Qualifications and Experience - Relevant experience and knowledge of indoor and outdoor soccer, including soccer rules -Experience playing and/or coaching soccer -Demonstrated ability to deliver soccer training drills. -Must be physically fit to be able to fully participate and show by example -Group work experience -Knowledge of issues affecting refugee young people is preferable
Key Selection Criteria 1. Proven group work skills – specifically soccer coach/referee experience 2. Demonstrated knowledge of soccer, the rules, techniques, training drills and sport safety 3. Demonstrated experience in actively participating in soccer 4. Well-developed interpersonal, communication (oral) and negotiation skills. 5. The ability to engage with young people 6. The ability to work in a team. 7. A current Victorian Drivers Licence holder
Organisational Accountability This position is accountable to the Board of Directors via the Chief Executive Officer. A Refugee Youth Worker of Youth Services provides direct supervision to this position.
Conditions of Employment 1) October to December 2009 (with the possibility of extension to 2010) 2) This is a casual and voluntary position of approximately 2 hrs per week 3) Staff member must obtain (with the assistance of SERMRC), or currently hold a current working with children card.
